Professor Coakham has been practising neurosurgery for more than 25 years and has developed a special interest in
the treatment of conditions causing severe facial pain (Trigeminal Neuralgia and Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia) spasm of the facial muscles (Hemifacial Spasm) and tumours which grow beneath the base of the brain (Meningiomas) also tumours which affect the hearing (Acoustic Neuromas).
He also has an interest in spinal microsurgery and helped
to develop microsurgery for lumbar disc disease in the UK, carrying out his first case in 1980.
He also specialises in cranial base tumours.
