Biography and publications
Professor Coakham is a science graduate of University College, London and trained in medicine at University College Hospital Medical School. His higher medical training was completed at University College Hospital where he became qualified as a Physician and Surgeon.
Neurosurgical training was completed at the Guys - Maudsley Unit and South East England Regional Unit, London and Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, USA.
He was appointed consultant neurosurgeon, Frenchay Hospital, Bristol in 1980 and was awarded an honorary professorship by the University of Bristol in 1992.
